The Pursuit of Perfect Taste

It began in 1930 when Thew Chun was established as a joint venture among several Chinese business owners who shared a common dream: to recreate the rich, authentic taste of Canton-style traditional soy sauce they had missed from their homeland.

Brewing Exquisite Flavours

Thew Chun derives from the Chinese term 調珍, which translates to “brewing exquisite flavours”. This naming reflects the founders’ passion for soy sauce and their relentless pursuit of the perfect taste.

Fate Dealt a Harsh Blow

The Japanese Occupation, however, brought turmoil to Malaysia and a harsh blow to Thew Chun. As conflict swept the nation, many businesses crumbled, and the once-thriving soy sauce company dissolved into the shadows of war, its legacy momentarily lost.

Then Came a Flicker of Hope

At the war’s end, our founder, Leong Weng Kut, acquired the company. He relaunched the company as 新調珍, Sun Thew Chun (“Sun” cognates to “New”). The name marked the close of a tragic chapter and a promising new beginning.

Revival, Restoration, Reinvention

Central to Leong’s success in restoration was cultivating strong relationships with his workforce. He was a leader who inspire others through his actions and empathy, fostering an environment of mutual respect and motivation.

Leadership and Modern Evolution

Following the passing of Leong, the business was handed over to his son-in-law, Tan Wai Hong. Under his stewardship, the company has flourished with his unwavering dedication. In 2009, we relocated to a state-of-the-art facility to accommodate rising demand and fuel our expansion.

The birth of our flagship carries the founder’s deep appreciation for the Chinese Cymbidium Orchid, a symbol of purity, elegance, and resilience. Generations trust the brand for its consistent quality and flavour.
